Chevy debuts new 2016 Trax Midnight Edition

Compact and sub-compact crossovers are all the rage right now and Chevy's Trax sub-compact just got more interesting. The itty-bitty, mini SUV (sorta) gets Chevy's Midnight Edition treatment for 2016. In other words, picture almost everything black like the paint, wheels, interior, trim and moldings. Okay, only the top pic is of the "Midnight Edition", but I provided the others for context and imagining. On the inside picture black everywhere with gray piping on the seats and mats. Outside only the badges and scuff plates lack the requisite black coloring. The Trax Midnight Edition is based on the top-end LTZ model so you'll get a lot of stuff for your bucks when the Trax ME goes on sale in February (2016). Prices start at $26,125 (includes destination) for the Trax LTZ and the Midnight Edition package will add another $500 buckaroos. And don't forget to add taxes, license, fees, and additional options to your total. With average new car prices rising above $30k, the Trax Midnight Edition could get you a fairly well-equipped vehicle for little money. Press Release:

New Midnight Edition adds distinction to small SUV

Chevrolet today announced the 2016 Trax Midnight Edition – a blacked-out styling statement for the small SUV, offering customers a bold choice and adding to the momentum of the brand’s record 2015 crossover sales.

Based on the LTZ trim, the Midnight Edition features black wheels, bezels, beltline molding and door handles, along with a black rear license plate applique. Inside, the seats are trimmed with gray accents and the floor mats feature gray piping.

“Introduced just a year ago, the Trax has quickly become an important vehicle for Chevrolet, bringing in new, younger and more female buyers to the brand,” said Betsy Flegg, senior marketing manager, Chevrolet Crossovers. “The small SUV segment is the fastest growing in the industry and models such as the new Trax Midnight Edition provides customers an expressive option.”

Trax sales were 57,707 for the first 11 months of 2015, placing it second in the segment, with almost 20-percent market share. Chevrolet crossover sales were up 35 percent for the same period.

Fusing small-car agility and utility convenience of an SUV, Trax offers up to 48.4 cubic feet of cargo space. A 1.4L turbocharged engine offers the efficiency of a small displacement engine – an EPA-estimated 34 mpg highway (FWD models) – with the power of a larger engine on-demand. Connectivity features include an available 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot.

Trax is joined by a full complement of Chevy crossovers and SUVs including the Equinox, Traverse, Tahoe and Suburban.

The Trax Midnight Edition goes on sale in late February 2016, with a package price of $500, in addition to the Trax LTZ’s $26,125 suggested retail price (MSRP includes destination charge, but excludes tax, title and other dealer fees).
