New 2017 almost-a-crossover Audi A4 allroad estate arriving this fall - w/pricing and video

Okay. You gotta admit that that is one fine-looking automobile. The 2017 Audi A4 allroad is basically an A4 Estate with one dose of steroids. Like the Subaru Outback, the A4 allroad has a raised ride height, Audi's quattro all-wheel-drive system, and all the premium luxury your heart desires and your pocketbook can pay for, Like the A4 allroad's VW sibling, this is an all-weather car with light off-road capabilities and not a rock-climbing beast like some Jeep Wranglers. The A4 allroad is a more luxurious conveyance than the VW or Subaru with standard features like the 2.0-liter turbo four that makes 252 hp and 273 lb.-ft. of torque that is mated to Audi's quattro Stronic dual-clutch, seven-speed automatic. Other standard features include the adaptive dampers with a redesigned five-link suspension, five drive-select modes (comfort, auto, dynamic, individual, and offroad), increased ride height of almost 1.5 inches, enhanced underbody protection, powerful wheel arches with cladding, raised aluminum roof rails, side sills with matte silver inserts, hill descent control, standard panoramic sunroof, leather seating surfaces, and three-zone automatic climate control to name a few. Options include the Audi Virtual Cockpit, full-color, heads-up display, a Bang & Olufsen 3D Sound Sound System (19 speakers, 755 watt), and more. Audi's connect infotainment system is on hand as are a full suite of driver assistance and safety features (either standard or optional). The Audi A4 allroad Premium (based model) will set you back $44k (+ destination charge - $950, taxes, title, options, and fees). Step up to the A4 allroad Premium plus for $47,000+ and the Prestige trim level will set you back $51,400+, Not cheap, but this is an Audi after all. For more info, check out the brief video and press release (with spec and pricing charts) after the jump. Enjoy!

Aston Martin shows limited edition Vanquish Zagato- w/video

Aston Martin makes some fantastic and fantastically beautiful automobiles. For years they have worked with outside coachbuilders and designers, like Zagato. For the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este at Lake Como, Italy this last May, Zagato designed a beautiful V12 Vanquish that was later approved for limited production. This is the production version. The video above is the introduction to this wonderful supercar that features Zagato touches like the double-bubble roof and the sensuous interpretation of standard Aston Martin design. I had trouble downloading the pics, so I placed the video in the "A" position and placed the one pic I have after the jump with the press release. Upgrades include the round taillights echoing Zagato design themes still utilizing LED illumination. The sensuous fenders ape the upcoming DB11 on a body made mostly of carbon fiber. The V12 engine has been breathed on with 600 hp on tap for Zagato duty. A unique suspension was developed to accommodate the increased power and lighter body and the list goes on and on. When I can download more pics, I will update this post. Until then, check out the press release after the jump and enjoy the video.

New 2017 BMW i3 gets denser battery for increased range - w/videos

BMW waved its magical EV wand and performed a little battery hocus pocus for the 2017 i3. For those not familiar with the i3, the little BMW is a battery-electric vehicle (EV) that was created to provide electrified motoring with a range that would suit the majority of people's needs (75 miles ish). The littlest BMW i (don't forget the i8 supercar) has been a successful first attempt for the folks from Bavaria and the 2017 model seems to be getting better. The new denser battery (94 Amp/Hours, 33 kWhs) is the same size as before but with increased range of 114 miles under normal driving. (See range driving video after the jump.) The '17 i3 gets improved connectivity features and you can even pre-heat or cool the batteries, etc. while charging (see last video after the jump). The range extender (Rex) option is still available but with a larger gas tank (now 2.4 gallons). A range extender is a small gas engine (650 cc, two-cylinder in this case) that drives a generator to help maintain charge and further increase range (EPA mileage numbers have yet to be announced with the new batteries). The i3 Rex is for those with extreme range anxiety and since the next wave of EVs, like the Chevy Bolt, are claiming ranges of 200 miles stretching miles per charge is increasingly important. Like all BMWs, the i3 is a handler and performer (0-60 in 7 secs.) and like other BMWs it can get expensive without judicious use of the pen when checking option boxes. When ever I build one online, I end up in the $50k neighborhood and 2017 prices have not been announced (batteries are expensive especially dense ones don'tcha know). Also BMW has added new equipment and tweaks to existing trim packages to make it easy to create your perfect i3. The LAPD recently took delivery of 100 i3s to test in various police pursuits (probably not high-speed). If you want more info, check out the extensive press release and two videos after the jump. Electric motoring is going mainstream y'all and BMW's i3 just makes it easier and easier. I like the new metallic blue paint. You? Read on to learn more about the ChargeNowUSA feature that can get you two years of free charging if you qualify...

Mini introduces the new Clubman All4

This one was an easy speculation. Yes, the Mini Clubman is getting the All4 treatment. All4 is the name given to Mini's all-wheel drive systems and the Clubman is a natural to receive it. The new Clubman is the largest Mini so far and shares its platform with company parent BMW's X1...good company indeed. While the Clubman is the "big Mini," it hasn't lost the Mini driving experience that has made the marque so popular with enthusiasts seeking relatively low-cost driving fun. And the Clubman can carry stuff too. Mini's All4 system has been upgraded with electro-hydraulic regulation, optimized weight, a new construction principle with power take-off bevel gear on the front axle, dual-section propeller shaft for power transmission, and a Hang-On multidisc clutch in the rear axle differential. Features include the standard Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) including Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), Electronic Differential Lock Control (EDLC) and Performance Control, sports suspension with Dynamic Damper Control optionally available, standard 17-inch light alloy wheels (light alloy wheels optionally available up to a size of 19 inches) and more. Other features include a central instrument with diverse display functions, intuitively operated air conditioning control unit. central console with electric parking brake, storage compartments, two cupholders, MINI Controller, the weight-optimized and crash-optimized body structure. front and side airbags, side curtain airbags, 3-point automatic belts on all seats (at front with belt tensioners and adaptive belt force limiters), and ISOFIX child seat mounting at rear. Mini Clubman Cooper S All4 gets the 2.0-liter turbo four (192 hp) mated to a six-speed manual or optional eight-speed Steptronic automatic transmission. Options include MINI Driving Modes (individual vehicle set-up modern driver assistance systems including MINI Head-Up-Display, Parking Assistant, rear view camera and Driving Assistant), LED headlamps and LED fog lights, electrically adjustable seats for driver and front passenger, Comfort Access including non-contact opening of the split doors, trailer tow hitch, panorama glass roof, MINI Excitement Package (with LED interior and ambient lighting and projection of the MINI logo from the exterior mirror on the driver's side when opening and closing the car), MINI Yours Interior Styles with backlit door bezels, alarm system including red LED status light in the fin antenna, as well as exclusive John Cooper Works and MINI Yours options and the current MINI Connected in-car infotainment program. In other words you can spend as much or little as your heart and pocketbook desire. Pricing hasn't been announced, but expect a $2,000 premium over a regular Clubman Cooper S. For more info, check out the previous post (link below) and the press release after the jump.

BMW creates the 2016 M5 Pure Metal Silver Limited Edition model

The BMW 5-Series sedan is about to get a re-do and the automaker is attempting to make sure the current version "goes out with a bang" (and to maintain interest...). What we have here is the Pure Metal Silver Limited Edition M5 that will come standard with just about everything in the BMW kitchen sink. The M5 4.4-liter V8 gets bumped up to 600 hp and 516 lb./ft. of torque and is mated to an M dual-clutch transmission featuring Drivelogic (allows sprints from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.9 seconds). Other standard equipment includes the M Driver's package (including high-performance driving school), the Competition Package, 20-inch light alloy wheels, full Merino leather interior, M Performance Exhaust, BMW's safety and technology suite of features, and much more. And let's not forget the special BMW Individual's Pure Metal Silver paint that is applied almost completely by hand. Other premium features include BMW Head-Up Display, BMW Driving Assistant, Advanced Real-Time Traffic Information, Navigation System, Comfort Access Keyless Entry, and Adaptive Full LED Lights to name a few. Only 50 of these special editions will be created for the US market (I'm sure you could have BMW Individual create one for you non-US consumers). Being one for the "if you have to ask" files, the M5 Pure Metal Silver Special Edition sedans will set you back $130,900 (plus $995 destination, taxes, license, fees, and options) each. One cool aspect to the special color is that it kinda makes this M5 less intrusive and more undercover which could come in handy if you have a "lead foot." (Check out the press release for a description of the paint process.) The 2016 M5 Pure Metal Silver Limited Editions go on sale in a few weeks starting in August 2016 so get to your dealer ASAP if you believe this could (should?) be your next car. Press release and specs after the jump.

Choices expand with new 2017 Nissan Titan Single Cab model - w/videos

Nissan is slowly rolling out it's complete new line of full-size Titan trucks with the entrance of the next model, the Titan Single Cab. Joining the Crew Cab model, the Single Cab will later spawn a King Cab version. The Titan will ultimately be available in three cab sizes, three bed lengths, and with three engines, (the 5.0-liter Cummins Turbo-diesel V8, the 5.6-liter Endurance gas V8, and an upcoming V6. The torque-monster Cummins turbodiesel V8 comes mated to a six-speed automatic, while the Endurance V8 is mated to a seven-speed auto unit. 4X2 (rear-wheel drive) is standard and a 4X4 system is optional. While Crew Cab models get a bevy of trim choices (S, SV, SL, PRO-4X and Platinum Reserve), the more work-focused Single Cab is available as a Titan or Titan XD (the diesel-engined version) in S or SV trim. The new 2017 Titan Single Cab will be arriving at your local dealer in the late fall. Pricing and other info will be released closer to the Single Cab model's intro. If this truck looks like it would fill your needs, get in touch with your dealer ASAP and be one of the first at the job site, home improvement store, or warehouse retailer with Nissan's latest. Press release, early specs, and two videos (running footage) after the jump.

The new 2017 Audi A5 and S5 Coupe - w/videos

Some will look at the photos and not see a change. Others will see that the existing design has been refined to appear more lithe and aerodynamic. Truth is, when you get it right, and the A5 has aged very well, there is no need for sweeping changes. So the new 2017 A5 (as well as the new S5) are just more. The style has been accentuated and is more sleek. The wider corporate grille has been affixed and the side accents are more defined. The interior is just a little bit nicer which is okay since Audi has some of the nicest interiors in the biz. US specs haven't been released (or pricing mileage, etc.) but from the engine stand point we should expect more of the same with the 2.0-liter four being the base engine with the S5 getting the new turbo V6. quattro all-wheel drive will also be available. There have also been rumors of a possible hybrid version, but breath holding I wouldn't do. This lovely coupe should once again give 4-Series buyers another viable option. For lots of information, check out the extensive press missive and the two videos. When you read the release after the jump, you'll become aware of some of the options that we just don't get in the US like performance diesel powertrains. (I know that is a sore spot for US consumers but if they pass the tests, diesels can provide good performance with better-than-average fuel efficiency.) Enjoy! More to come...

Morgan creates the ultimate "green" sports/city car, the EV3 - w/video

This post would normally be listed under the "Another Car We Won't get" listing, but since Morgan has begun sending new four-wheel sports cars to the US, maybe... Also, three-wheeled city cars are being introduced by manufacturers here, so just maybe we will see this one. When you think about, who better to provide a three-wheeled conveyance than a company that has been building them for decades. Like other Morgans, the EV3 has an ash wood frame but with many composite panels in place of some of the aluminum ones. Saving weight where you can to offset the weight of the batteries, don'tcha know. Unlike some EVS, the EV3 is not a neck-snapper with the car hitting sixty in under nine seconds on the way to a ninety mph top speed. Range is currently (go ahead, giggle) 150 miles which should fit most everyone's needs. If you'd like a unique wind-in-your-hair (and face) throwback to older sportsters but with a thoroughly modern drivetrain, let Morgan know you're interested. The EV3 isn't for everybody, but it is nice to know it's there. For more info, check out the release and intro video after the jump. Did I mention that the EV3 is entering production this fall in the UK? Looks like fun...

Toyota upgrades the new 2017 4Runner with TRD Off-Road and Off-Road Premium models

With all the focus on the compact crossover market, it would be easy to forget that Toyota still makes a true mid-size, body-on-frame SUV, the 4Runner. For 2017, Toyota is adding two new choices to the 4Runner series, the TRD Off-Road and TRD Off-Road Premium models to go along with the existing SR5, SR5 Premium, Limited, and TRD Pro options. Toyota's TRD (Toyota Racing Development) group has breathed on the "Runner" to enhance the existing truck for TRD Off-Road duty with special wheels, badges, and trim not to mention the upgraded off-road equipment. New stuff includes the Multi-Terrain Select system which allows the driver to use a dial to select the mode that matches prevailing terrain and conditions, adjusting wheel slip accordingly. Approach and departure angles have been improved and the ground clearance has been increased. The available Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS) facilitates extended wheel travel at slow speeds for greater off-road capability and stability...you know, for crawling over rocks and stuff. Call this one the 4Runner go anywhere, prepare for the Apocalypse model. While most folks won't take even the most capable trucks off-road, some will and Toyota wants this to be your SUV. Dash pic (above) is from last year's truck. For more info, check out the press release after the jump.

BMW introduces luxury, performance, and efficiency with the new 740e iPerformance series

If you haven't seen a new BMW 7-Series, the 7 is huge. Okay maybe not the largest, but the car has presence and since the 7-Series is currently BMW's flagship auto, it gets all the good stuff. Infotainment (iDrive, et al), safety tech, luxury touches, and pretty much what your little heart desires and wallet can afford are available. BMW is now spreading around what it has learned with its i-Series cars and is introducing the 740e iPerformance that will also get an L and x-Drive versions. To put it simply, the 740e iperformance is a plug-in hybrid that uses BMW's TwinPower Turbo four from its Efficient Dynamics engines mated to a hybrid drive that is integrated into the eight-speed automatic. Power is routed to the rear wheels unless you opt for the all-wheel-drive xDrive option. The hybrid system is rated at 258 total hp and is expected to return outstanding (for a large car) fuel economy (EPA numbers are pending). Remember, even hybrids get "relatively" poor fuel economy if you keep your left foot to the floor. While the 740e models won't be confused with "M" Bimmers, the performance should be more than satisfactory and extremely serene (aka smooth). I think the extra bright work is a bit garish, but that's me. Prices weren't announced for US models, but if you check a lot of boxers on the options sheet, you'll be in six-figure territory pretty quickly. The new 740e models should be at your local retailer later this year. The black one is nice, isn't it? For more info, check out the press release after the jump.

High-performance Focus RS now on tap at your local Ford dealer - w/videos

Hot hatches are very popular around the globe, but automakers have not always brought the potent runabouts to the US market. Ford has changed this with the 2016 Focus RS, a high-performance compact Focus that shoehorns a 2.3-liter EcoBoost four (350 hp and 350 lb.-ft. of torque) under the hood. Yes Martha, a 350 hp Focus. The Focus RS hits 60 mph in about 4.5 seconds on the way to a 165 mph top speed. Other standard features include Ford's Performance All-Wheel Drive with Dynamic Torque Vectoring; a six-speed manual transmission (automatics need not apply); RS-specific fascia, body kit, and wheels; Recaro sport seats; and a sport suspension system with four selectable drive modes: Normal, Sport, Track and the industry-first Drift mode. Prices start at $36,605 (includes destination, plus taxes, license, fees, and options). No performance isn't cheap, but the Focus RS does come well equipped. If the new Focus RS looks good to you (and you think you can handle it), the first examples are arriving at US Ford dealers now (see interview with first US RS owner after the jump). If you're gonna spend these bucks, go in and order your Focus RS just the way you want it. For more info, check out the press release and videos after the jump.

Jeep creates an homage to the original Willys Jeep to celebrate 75 years of Jeepness

This was one of those releases that I've gotten where I went, naw, and then reconsidered. The vehicle above is an homage to the vehicle pictured below, the original 1944 Willys Jeep. The Wrangler 75th Salute concept (above) was created to acknowledge the simple, little go anywhere vehicle that started life in the military. Who'da thunk Jeep would evolve into such a successful car brand? The concept is a production Wrangler Sport powered by the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 with a six-speed manual transmission. Additional changes for concept duty include Olive-Drab paint, 16-inch steel wheels wrapped in 32-inch military non-directional tires, hood latches, a rear-mounted spare tire, steel front and rear bumpers with tow hooks and low back canvas seats, along with custom wood hood blocks and side mirrors, as well as bronze commemorative fender badges. Sort of a stripped down Wrangler getting back to its roots. Interestingly, the car was built on the Jeep Toledo assembly line, which begs the question, "Will they build a limited number of these back-to-basics Jeeps?" I would imagine that there would be a few takers if the car was priced in line with it's stripped down content. Hmmm...a new entry-level Jeep Wrangler maybe? Makes ya stop and ponder, doesn't it...

Quick Look: Hyundai announces turbocharged 2017 Elantra Sport

Automakers have discovered (once again) that performance sells. Hot hatches are very popular in Europe and other parts of the world and the various high-performance Foci (Focuses?) are doing well here. Remember the CRZ that Honda used to sell. Yup, hot hatch...well not the current car...it is a hybrid trying to rely on the older car's popularity to move metal...didn't work did it? So automakers have learned that if you put Sport on the fenders and trunk lid, it should have more than just good looks, dark trim, and large wheels. It should have the performance to go with it and Hyundai is doing just that with the new Elantra Sport. They have tweaked the suspension for better handling (outfitted with an independent multi-link rear suspension) and stuffed a 1.6-liter turbocharged four (200+hp, 190 lb./ft. of torque) under the hood that can be mated to either a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch automatic with paddle shifters making the Sport model the most powerful Elantra. The look is unique as well with dark trim, large wheels, a body kit, and interior tweaks like red stitching, etc. The car is attractive and not overdone with hey-give-me-a-ticket spoilers. More info (like pricing, EPA figures, etc.) will be made available closer to the car's official intro date this Fall. This one could be another winner for Hyundai. Press release and pics after the jump.

New 2017 Nissan Pathfinder gets updates, upgrades, new features - w/video

To start with, let's just say that there is more info here than you'll need unless, of course, you're looking to buy a large SUV/crossover people and stuff mover and the big Nissan is on your radar. One press release discusses the evolution of the Pathfinder from a true body-on-frame utility (based on the then compact Frontier pickup) to the unibody crossover of today. The 2017 Pathfinder is not an all-new vehicle, but it is a substantial update of the last iteration. The front end is updated with new headlights and LED daytime running lights and the 3.5-liter V6 gets more hps and torque but with the same mpgs. A CVT (continuously-variable transmission) is the only option and it's a shame that Nissan continues to spread an entry-level bit of kit across their line-up (especially at these potential prices). The clean interior, while a bit spartan, gets upgrades with new wood and metal accents (depending on the trim) and a larger infotainment screen to better display Nissan's updated NissanConnect system. You want over-the-top luxury? That's what Infiniti is for. The Pathfinder comes in four flavors, S, SV, SL, and Platinum with content levels increasing in each successive trim level. Overall, this is a nice update that should find many happy homes. For the minutia, check out the four press releases, spec charts (sorry for the layout prob.), and a b-roll video after the jump.

Porsche unveils the new 2017 Panamera - w/videos

Porsche has taken the wraps off of the second-generation Panamera...the sedan that really, really wants to be a 911. And that's not a bad thing because the Panamera is an amazing sedan. You get Porsche-level performance in a car that can take more than two people (comfortably) and their stuff for a little "grand touring." The second-gen car is enhanced and slightly larger and lighter than its predecessor. The exterior design is cleaner and even more 911-like. It is now a truly lovely car with zip. The interior is redone using Porsche's "Advanced Cockpit" theme with clean looks and integrated electronics. (No just stick a screen anywhere design here.) The engines have been tweaked and provide more power with greater efficiency. A new V8 turbo diesel (422 hp, 0-60 in under 4.5 secs., gobs of torque) has been added to the 4S Diesel model (I'm sure with the increased scrutiny, the engine is compliant) and becomes the most fuel efficient offering with performance numbers that are just off the bi-turbo V6 (440 hp, 0-60 in under 4.4 secs.) and V8 (550 hp, 0-60 in under 3.8 secs) models of the 4S and Turbo. What's a few tenths of a second among friends? Permanent all-wheel drive is available across the board as is a new eight-speed Porsche dual-clutch transmission (PDK). All the latest electronics and safety features are standard or available with the exception of autonomous-driving. I think if you buy a Porsche, you want to drive, am I right? For lots of info about the 2017 Panamera, check out the extensive press release and two videos after the jump. An even better looking car... Enjoy!

AVWWG: All-new 2017 Renault Alaskan truck - w/video

Here's another one for the Another Vehicle We Won't Get files, the Renault Alaskan one-ton pick-em-up. Or will we? You see, some automakers are sharing development costs of new vehicles. Renault, Nissan, and Mercedes Benz, yes Mercedes, are working together on this new truck platform and  the Renault Alaskan is the first completed vehicle to see the proverbial light of day. In other words, we may see the Alaskan platform under a new Frontier (new name?) mid-size truck or possibly under Mercedes first truck in the US. 'Til then what you see here is Renault's version that will be available first in South and Latin America, followed by Europe and Africa. The Alaskan is available with two four-cylinder engines, one diesel and one gas. Expect manual and automatic transmissions as well as available all-wheel drive. The interior of the Alaskan seems a bit spartan but does fit the needs of a "work" truck. The front end is a bit busy for my taste, but the rest of the truck is attractive. Expect Nissan and Mercedes versions to have their own drivetrains and fitments. Could be cool. For lots of Alaskan specific info, check out the press releases and video after the "read more" jump.

Audi Q2: Compact crossover coming to a dealer near you...soon - w/video

If you need to buy a new car now, you may not want to read on. Audi's all-new Q2 compact crossover has gone into production and we should begin seeing these cute runabouts in the Fall. You know, several months or weeks from now. The Q2 puts Audi's handsome and familiar suit on what will be Audi's smallest crossover/SUV. The tail is especially nice with the LED lights. Without going into much detail (you can get that in the press releases after the jump), Audi is putting forth its first effort into the expanding compact crossover segment with an attractive and sporty offering. US specs haven't been released, but we should expect the 2.0-liter turbo four and possibly the 2.0-liter diesel (if they have that whole diesel thing wrapped up by then) to go with the seven-speed S-Tronic automatic and quattro all-wheel drive. As with the Audi's German brethren, you can get just about everything on your Q2 (driver assistance packages, MMI infotainment, Audi Connect, Wi-Fi, Bang & Olefsen premium audio, and much more) with its extensive options list. Expect prices to start in the high $20k range topping out at what your checkbook and budget will allow. For lots of info and a brief video, check out the press releases with more information than you thought you'd ever need after the "read more" click.. Enjoy! Looks real good Audi!

Quick Look: 2017 Honda Ridgeline mid-size truck - w/videos
The previous Honda Ridgeline took a page from the Chevy Avalanche school of design with flying buttresses and other not-your-typical-truck features. While the Avalanche featured the typical body-on-frame truck production model, the Ridgeline shared it's platform with the Pilot crossover and the Odyssey minivan although with considerable stiffening for truck duty. For 2017, the all-new Ridgeline still uses a heavily modified crossover platform. but ditches the "Avalanche look" for a more popular regular truck profile. The pick-up bed and cockpit body line was even expanded to more closely approximate a "regular body-on-frame" truck. The Ridgeline is an attractive mid-size truck that will meet the needs of most mid-size truck buyers...
